Which way is choke on or off?

Choke on means that the choke plate is covering the carb throat. The “choke” is off when the choke lever is down or when the choke lever is facing you if your choke is a handle bar mount. Choke off means that the choke plate is not covering the carb throat.

Where is the choke valve always located?

There's a variety of lawn mowers, but for an internal combustion engine, the choke valve is usually located on the body of the engine or a lever on the handle. Most choke valves are butterfly valves mounted in the manifold up from the carburetor jet.

Where is the choke on a bike?

On a motorcycle, a choke valve is likely to be a pulling lever either directly attached to the carburettor or indirectly attached to the carburettor via a cable.

What is a choke on a car?

In internal combustion engines with carburetors, a choke valve or choke modifies the air pressure in the intake manifold, thereby altering the air–fuel ratio entering the engine. Choke valves are generally used in naturally aspirated engines to supply a richer fuel mixture when starting the engine.

Is choke on closed or open?

Generally, the choke should be closed for a cold start, opened for a warm start. Closing the choke, provides excess fuel which is not needed for a warm start. Excess fuel will quickly cause 'flooding' if cranking continues, even with a cold engine.

What is the choke position on a lawn mower?

Choke plate - a control on the carburetor which partially closes off the air intake and forces additional suction to increase the amount of fuel drawn into the cylinder. Normally, the choke is closed when starting cold and gradually opened in the few seconds after the engine starts.

What are symptoms of a stuck choke?

It will cause an over rick mixture, rough idle , stalling. Spray carb cleaner on the linkages and choke plate bearing surfaces. Mechanically work the choke plate back and forth to work out any crud.

Does my car have a choke?

On a modern car, there isn't one. On older cars, trucks, and modern carburated engines (lawn mowers, chainsaws, etc.: The choke is a physical metal disc that's thin and does nothing when open, but can be rotated to block off most of the throat (air intake) of a carburetor.

What happens if you leave the choke on after the engine starts running?

Leaving the choke on while operating will result in excessive fuel consumption, irregular engine power performance and eventually may even damage the engine.

How do you start a choke on a bike?

Close the choke and open the throttle.

Shortly after the engine fires, close the choke lever progressively and open the throttle slightly as the engine warms. As you ride, you may still need some choke for a short distance – but close the choke lever as soon as possible to achieve smooth running.

Where's the choke on a dirt bike?

Locate the choke lever near the engine on the side of your dirt bike, probably not far from the "FUEL ON/OFF" switch. Use your finger to move the choke lever to the on position.

Can you drive with choke on?

3 Answers. It will not damage the engine at all. All that will happen is that it will run richer, thus using more fuel. If you did it for thousands of miles you'd probably end up with more deposits in the engine/exhaust, but even that is easy to sort.

How do you choke a car?

Pull the choke out all the way, depress the accelerator slightly, start the car. If the engine is cold, push the choke in half way until it warms up, then close the choke. It the engine is warm, wait a few seconds after starting then close the choke.

When did cars stop having a choke?

Most young drivers would never have experienced a manual choke, but for some this was the norm when it came to starting their vehicle years ago. With the introduction of fuel injection, the manual choke disappeared from the market in the early 90s.
